Outings

Le Marche has something to offer everyone when it comes to outings. Whether culture, history, nature, towns, markets… there are beautiful and interesting places to explore all year round.

There are many mediaeval buildings hidden away in the lovely hilly countryside of the hinterland, such as churches, castles, villages and little towns. Moresco, which is situated just a few kilometres away, is one of the most beautiful castles in Italy which is still inhabited.

Fermo is a pretty little city boasting the attractive Piazza del Popolo square, the Teatro dell Aquila theatre with its grand interior dating back to 1780, the cathedral, cisterns dating back to Roman times, and various interesting museums. There is a large market every Thursday evening in the summer selling antiques, art and crafts, and regional specialities.

You might like to venture a little further afield and explore Ascoli Piceno, a lovely town with one of the most beautiful piazzas in Italy and home to some interesting museums. Our personal favourites and well worth a visit are the hat museum in Montappone, the shoe museum in Sant Elpidio a Mare, and the seashell museum in Cupramarittima.

There are also countless churches which are worth seeing in all the villages and towns in Piceno.  One of the largest and most famous is the Satuario della Santa casa in Loreto. The magnificent basilica surrounding the house where Mary was born is a place of pilgrimage for thousands of believers.

The Monte Sibillini National Park is a majestic mountain landscape with the highest summits in Le Marche and the only glacial lake in the Apennines. A paradise for ramblers, bikers and nature lovers.
A trip to the uninhabited and indescribably beautiful high plateau of Castelluccio is definitely on the must-do list.

The Grotte di Frasassi in Genga near Fabriano are one of nature's wonders. They rank among the most beautiful stalactite caves in the world, extending 25 kilometres in length and boasting a height of 240 metres.
They are open to visitors every day.

These are just a few of the options from a long list of possibilities. Sometimes, however, it is your own discoveries which evoke the most lasting memories.
